Connecting Jira to Axiamatic lets the platform analyze work tracked in Jira Software and Jira Product Discovery (JPD). Depending on the project you configure, Axiamatic can sync Jira issues or JPD ideas to generate insights and findings.
Here is a step-by-step guide to connect Jira to Axiamatic, including the permissions you need to grant and what they mean.
Prerequisites:
Before connecting Jira to Axiamatic, you will need a Personal Access Token (PAT) from Atlassian. Follow the steps below to generate one.
Steps to create a PAT:
Step 1: Access Your Atlassian Profile
In Jira or Confluence, select your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen and choose Settings from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Navigate to Security Settings
Under your account settings, select Security from the top menu. Click Create and manage API tokens under the API token section.
Step 3: Create a New Token
Axiamatic supports two types of Jira connections:
Full Access — Axiamatic can access all Jira data your account can view. Select Create API token to generate a token with full scope.
Limited Access — Axiamatic can only access the specific Jira data you permit. Select Create API token with scopes to define exactly what the token can do.
Give your token a meaningful name that reflects its purpose, such as "Jira Axiamatic Integration".
If you selected Create API token with scopes, choose the permissions you want to grant. We recommend enabling read:jira-work and read:jira-user for standard Axiamatic functionality.
Give your token a meaningful name that reflects its purpose, such as "Jira Axiamatic Integration".
Step 4: Set an Expiry Date
Choose an expiry date for your token. If your workspace administrator permits it, you can select 'No expiry'.
Step 5: Copy and Store Your Token
Click 'Create'. Your token will be displayed once; copy it immediately and store it somewhere secure. You can't retrieve it again after you leave this screen.
Step 1: Navigate to Integrations
Log in to your Axiamatic account
From the main navigation menu, click Settings, then click on Integrations
Step 2: Connect to Jira / Jira Product Discovery
Locate the Project Management section on the Integrations page
Find the Jira integration card
Click the Connect button
A pop-up will appear requesting your Jira account details
Step 3: Select Your Connection Type
In the Linking your Jira account screen, select the connection type that matches your Jira setup. Your selection expands to show the fields for that type.
Select Jira Cloud if you created a standard API token with full access. Select jira-cloud-with-limited-scope if you created an API token with scopes. Both Cloud options ask for your email address, your API token and your Jira Cloud ID. The next section explains how to find your Cloud ID.
When prompted during connection setup, you will need to provide three values—your email address, your PAT from the prerequisite step, and your Jira Cloud ID.
How to locate your Cloud ID:
In your browser, navigate to
https://your-domain.atlassian.net/_edge/tenant_info, replacingyour-domainwith your company's Atlassian domain. The page will return a JSON object. Locate the
cloudIdfield and copy its value — it will look similar toa1b2c3d4-e5f6-7a8b-9c0d-1e2f3a4b5c6d.
Enter this value in the Cloud ID field in Axiamatic to proceed.
Select On-Prem Auth if your organization runs a self-hosted Jira instance.
This option uses a username and password together with a client certificate and
private key.
Configure an On-Prem connection
After you select On-Prem Auth, enter the following details:
base_urlis the base URL of your Jira On-Prem instance.usernameandpasswordare your Jira username and password.cert_pemis your client certificate in PEM format.key_pemis the private key that matches the certificate, in PEM format.cert_passphraseis the passphrase that protects the private key.api_keyis an optional API key. Enter it only if your setup requires one.
Paste the complete contents of the certificate and private key files into cert_pem and key_pem. Include the marker lines at the start and end of each file.
A certificate starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and ends with
-----END CERTIFICATE-----. A private key usually starts with -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- and ends with -----END PRIVATE KEY-----. Some key formats use different markers, such as -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----, so keep the markers that your file already has.
Get the certificate, private key and passphrase from your organization’s Jira or certificate administrator. Treat the private key and passphrase as sensitive credentials.
Configure a service account connection
Configure a service account connection
Use a service account when you want the Jira Cloud connection to belong to your organization instead of one person. With a service account, the connection keeps working if the person who set it up changes roles or leaves. This option needs a Client ID, a Client Secret and your Cloud ID.
Step 1: Create a service account
Sign in to Atlassian Administration.
Select your organization.
Go to Directory > Service accounts.
Click Create service account.
Enter a name such as
Axiamatic Jira Integrationand create the account.
You may need organization administrator permissions to create a service account. If you already have one, you can reuse it.
Step 2: Grant Jira access
Give the service account access to the Jira application.
Give it permission to view the Jira projects you want Axiamatic to sync.
Make sure it has the Browse Projects permission in each of those projects.
Axiamatic can only sync data that the service account can access.
Step 3: Generate OAuth 2.0 credentials
Open the service account in Atlassian Administration.
Click Create credentials and select OAuth 2.0.
Select these Jira permissions:
read:jira-workread:jira-user
Generate the credentials and copy the Client ID and Client Secret to a secure place.
Your Atlassian administrator may need to approve these permissions before the credentials work.
Step 4: Find your Cloud ID
Open
https://yourcompany.atlassian.net/_edge/tenant_infoin your browser. Replaceyourcompanywith your Atlassian subdomain.Copy the value of the
cloudIdfield from the response.
Step 5: Connect to Axiamatic
In Axiamatic, go to Settings > Integrations > Jira.
Select Jira Cloud – Service Account as the authentication method.
Enter these details:
Client ID: The Client ID you generated in Step 3.
Client Secret: The Client Secret you generated in Step 3.
Cloud ID: The Cloud ID you copied in Step 4.
Click Connect.
Axiamatic authenticates with the service account credentials, so you don’t need to create an access token yourself.
Integration complete! Your Jira account is now connected and ready to use with Axiamatic. You can also see that the status on the card has been updated.
To disconnect an integration, click on the Disconnect button on the card.
Note: This integration supports both Jira Software and Jira Product Discovery because they use the same Atlassian platform. After connecting your Atlassian account, simply select the Jira or JPD project you want Axiamatic to analyze.
After successfully connecting Jira to Axiamatic, link a specific project to begin analyzing your data.
Step 4: Navigate to Channels Settings
In the main navigation, locate the profile menu in the bottom left corner
Click on Org Settings
Select the Channels tab
Step 5: Access Jira or Jira Product Discovery Project Selection
Find the Jira tile in the Channels view
Click the Select Project button
A project selection dialog will open
Step 6: Choose Your Jira or Jira Product Discovery Project
Select the project you want Axiamatic to analyze. This can be either:
a Jira Software project (Stories, Tasks, Bugs, Epics, etc.)
a Jira Product Discovery project containing Ideas
Once selected, Axiamatic will sync the work items available in that project according to your configuration.
If projects are missing: click the Refresh button to reload the complete project list
Select your project: Choose the project you want to connect from the dropdown
Step 7: Save Configuration
After selecting your project, click Save to confirm the connection
The dialog will close and return you to the Channels view
Project linking complete! Your selected Jira or Jira Product Discovery project name will now be displayed on the Jira tile, confirming the successful connection.
Using Jira Product Discovery
Axiamatic also supports Jira Product Discovery (JPD). If your organization uses JPD to capture product ideas, feature requests, and prioritization, you can sync those ideas by selecting your JPD project during channel configuration.
Once configured, Axiamatic can analyze JPD ideas alongside other connected enterprise data sources, allowing product planning information to be included in insights and AI responses.
Note: Only ideas from the configured JPD project are synchronized. If you have multiple JPD projects, configure each one separately as needed.
You can now begin using Jira or Jira Product Discovery project data for analysis and insights within Axiamatic.
