Connecting to Google Drive

Integrate your Google Drive with Axiamatic to enable AI-enhanced responses based on your documents and files. Our system securely reads your content to provide contextually relevant insights without making any modifications to your files.

Connect Google Drive so Axiamatic can index your files and answer questions from them.

Overview

The Google Drive integration gives Axiamatic read-only access to the Drive files and folders you choose, so it can index them and use them in its answers. Axiamatic cannot edit, delete or move your files. You can connect with your own Google account or with a Google Cloud service account that an administrator manages.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Google Drive to Axiamatic, ensure:

  1. You have an active Google account with Google Drive

  2. Your browser allows pop-ups from Axiamatic (for the authorization window)

  3. For Google Workspace users: Verify that your administrator has enabled third-party API access for Google Drive

  4. You're comfortable granting read-only access to your file.

How It Works

When you connect Google Drive to Axiamatic:

  1. You authorize secure, read-only access to your files

  2. Axiamatic indexes your documents to understand your content

  3. Our AI provides intelligent responses based on your specific files and context

  4. You maintain complete control and can revoke access at any time

Important: This integration is read-only. Axiamatic cannot edit, delete, or modify your files or Google account.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Log in & Access Settings

  • Log in to your Axiamatic account.

  • Navigate to the “Settings” section from the dashboard.

Step 2: Integrations Page

  • Within Settings, go to the “Integrations” page.

  • Locate the “Google Drive” integrations card.

Step 3: Initiate Connection

  • Click on the “Connect” button.

  • A pop-up will appear prompting you to choose between a Shared Connection or Private Connection.

Shared Connection

  • Grants access to all current and future projects/business units in Axiamatic.

  • Recommended for organizations seeking broad integration.

Private Connection

  • Limits access to the current project or account only.

  • Each new project will require a separate connection setup.

Step 4: Choose a connection method

The standard method uses your Google account. You sign in to Google and approve the permissions. Axiamatic can then read the files your account can see. Axiamatic recommends this method for most teams because it takes a few minutes and needs no Google Cloud setup.

The service account method uses credentials from a Google Cloud project instead of a person’s account. An administrator decides exactly which files the service account can reach. Use this method when your organization wants centrally managed credentials or does not want the connection tied to one employee’s account.

Before you start, allow pop-ups from Axiamatic in your browser, because Google’s sign-in screen opens in a new window. If you use Google Workspace, check that your administrator allows third-party apps to access Google Drive.

Connect with your Google account

Google asks you to approve four permissions. drive.readonly lets Axiamatic read file content for indexing. drive.metadata.readonly lets it read file names, sizes and folder structure, so it can catalog files without downloading them unnecessarily. userinfo.profile and userinfo.email let it read your name and email address, which it uses to link the connection to your Axiamatic account.

Connect with a service account

An administrator sets up the service account in Google Cloud first. They pick a Google Cloud project, enable the Google Drive API for it and create a service account. Then they share the Drive files or folders that Axiamatic needs with the service account’s email address. A service account cannot see anyone’s Drive until someone gives it access, so skipping this step leaves Axiamatic with nothing to index. In Google Workspace, your organization’s policies may require your administrator to configure additional access settings.

Next, the administrator creates a key for the service account and downloads it as a JSON credentials file. Google explains how in Create access credentials. This file contains the three values Axiamatic asks for.

  • Service Account Email comes from the client_email field.

  • Service account private key comes from the private_key field. Copy the whole value, including the BEGIN and END lines.

  • Service account token uri comes from the token_uri field.

Axiamatic uses these credentials to request a short-lived access token from Google. It then uses the token to read the files and metadata that the service account can access. This method requests only one permission, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly, which covers both file content and metadata. Store the credentials file somewhere secure after setup, because anyone with the private key can act as the service account.

Integration complete! Your ClickUp account is now connected and ready to use with Axiamatic.

After completing the Google Drive integration, Axiamatic allows users to specify which folders or files to pull in for analysis. Below are concise, step-by-step instructions to guide the process:

Adding Google Drive Folders or Files to Axiamatic

Once your Google Drive integration is active, you can designate specific folders or files for Axiamatic to index and analyze.

Steps to Connect Specific Files or Folders

Step 1: Navigate to Channels Page

Go to the “Channels” section within Axiamatic’s settings dashboard.

Step 2: Locate Google Drive Integration Card

If the integration is successful, you will see a Google Drive card.
Click the “Connect folders and files” button on this card.

Step 3: Enter File or Folder URLs

Paste the URL of each Google Drive file or folder you want Axiamatic to access in the provided field. You may add up to 5 separate URLs.

Step 4: Save and Pull Data

Click Save. Axiamatic will automatically pull data from your designated URLs, enabling seamless indexing and intelligent responses based on the selected content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Axiamatic change my files?

No. Both connection methods are read-only. Axiamatic cannot edit, delete or move files, and it cannot change your Google account.

Why can’t Axiamatic see a file I added?

Axiamatic sees only what the connected account can see. With a service account, the file or a folder above it must be shared with the service account’s email address. With a Google account connection, your own account must have access to the file.

Where do I find the token URI?

It is the token_uri value in the service account’s credentials file. For most accounts it is https://oauth2.googleapis.com/token.

Can I revoke access later?

Yes. For a Google account connection, remove Axiamatic from the third-party connections in your Google account. For a service account, an administrator can delete the key or stop sharing files with the service account.

The Google sign-in window does not open. What do I do?

Allow pop-ups from Axiamatic in your browser, then click Connect again.
