Connect OpenText ALM to Axiamatic

Connect OpenText ALM, formerly Micro Focus ALM or HP ALM, to Axiamatic with an API key or username and password to sync defects, requirements and test runs.

Sync defects, requirements, test cases and test runs from your ALM projects.

Overview

The OpenText ALM integration connects Axiamatic to your OpenText ALM instance, formerly Micro Focus ALM or HP ALM. Axiamatic reads data from your ALM projects to help you track project progress, spot risks and generate insights.

Prerequisites

Before you connect, make sure you have the following:

  • The Enterprise Admin or Integrations Admin role in Axiamatic. Without one of these roles, you cannot open the Integrations page.

  • The server URL of your ALM instance, for example https://alm.company.com/qcbin.

  • OpenText ALM credentials, either an API key (a Client ID and an API Key Secret) or a username and password.

  • Read access in ALM to the domains, projects and records you want to sync.

  • Network access from Axiamatic to your ALM server, if your organization runs ALM on-premises.

Get your OpenText ALM credentials

Axiamatic supports two ways to authenticate. Axiamatic recommends an API key because it does not depend on one person’s password.

Option 1: API key (recommended)

  1. Sign in to your OpenText ALM instance.

  2. Open the API key management area.

  3. Create an API key for the Axiamatic integration.

  4. Copy the Client ID and the API Key Secret, and store them securely.

This area is not available in every ALM version or for every account. If you cannot find it, ask your ALM administrator to enable API keys or to generate the credentials for you.

Option 2: Username and password

Use the credentials of an existing ALM account that has access to the projects you want to sync. Axiamatic recommends a dedicated integration account for this. Syncs can stop working when an individual user changes their password.

Connect OpenText ALM

To connect OpenText ALM, follow these steps:

  1. Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner of Axiamatic and select Program Settings.

  2. Open the Integrations tab.

  3. In the Project Management section, find the OpenText ALM card and click Connect.

  4. Choose how to scope the connection.

    1. Shared makes the connection available to all current and future projects and business units in your workspace. Axiamatic recommends this option unless your organization restricts which projects can see ALM data.

    2. Private limits the connection to the current project or account. Other projects need their own connection.

  5. Click Proceed.

  6. Select an authentication method, either API Key or Username and Password.

  7. Enter your details.

    1. For an API key, enter the OpenText ALM Server URL, the Client ID and the API Key Secret.

    2. For a username and password, enter the OpenText ALM Server URL, your Username and your Password.

  8. Click Connect

Confirm the connection

After you click Connect, Axiamatic tries to sign in to your ALM server. When this succeeds, the OpenText ALM card on the Integrations page shows a Connected status. The integration is then ready for project configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which authentication method should I use?

Use an API key if your ALM version supports it. If it does not, use a username and password from a dedicated integration account.

What data does Axiamatic sync from ALM?

Axiamatic syncs defects, requirements, test cases and test runs from the projects your account can access.

I cannot find the API key option in ALM. What should I do?

API key authentication depends on your ALM version and server setup. Contact your ALM administrator to confirm whether it is available and to have it enabled.

Can I connect an on-premises ALM instance?

Yes. The ALM server must be reachable from Axiamatic.

What is the difference between Shared and Private?

A Shared connection serves every project in your workspace. A Private connection serves only the current project or account.

Who can connect OpenText ALM?

Users with the Enterprise Admin or Integrations Admin role can connect it.
